Defining Implications
The Mind Map is developed further as we take our intelligence and identify the range of implications for the "sandwiched generation." In this case, we have identified financial, healthcare and decision support implications.
Financial
The circle on the lower left represents some of the financial obligations that the "sandwiched generation" is facing. Tuition at colleges and universities has increased for the past four years between 3.4 and 4.8 percent, higher than the rate of inflation. At the same time, out-of-pocket healthcare expenses for those 65 and over range between 20 and 49 percent of their annual income. These costs are taking their toll on the retirement funds of the "squeezed generation."
