Segments of Silicon Valley seem to be taking a moment to reflect on their responsibilities in the social revolution that their creations are triggering. Specifically, concern about excesses – from an inability to disconnect to sliding concentration and from online bullying to endlessly connected work hours – has garnered much of the attention, especially among the young and among workers. Stresses and addictions in the workplace and user space have become more recognized, and companies in the tech industry have started to focus on alleviating worker stresses as a first step. Because the workplace pressure to perform has filtered down in families to the young, the hope is that easing those stresses in the workplace and more evenly spreading the positive results of digital technology will eventually relieve stresses on the next generation. Such an outcome depends on the Moment to Reflect continuing and leading to more effective and lasting responses.
