The ease with which generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) can create content is resulting in “flooding the zone” – that is, overwhelming the Internet – with algorithmic-generated content. While such an eventuality has long been anticipated, the pace at which human-generated content is being displaced by GenAI content is catching many current human creators off guard. GenAI is assisting humans in creating new content, and it is also creating its own new material. Confusion and uncertainty have emerged as to the source of any song, movie, social-media post, business decision, search-engine answer, client service, news report, email, text, fact or any other product. That confusion leads to several questions about content: Is it real? Is it a human product? Is it believable? Is the origin of this content who (or what) it claims to be? Ultimately, do any of those questions matter? Society is entering a new era of content creation and consumption, and that means society is in the process of deciding which, if any, of those questions matter in the new era .
