The appeal of what might be called the autocratic culture – power, control, growth, stability, security, all enabled by surveillance – is becoming stronger, especially as the global economy fails to produce what is needed to satisfy the expectations of citizens everywhere. That background has enabled the autocrats’ practices to start to seep into democratic governments. Capitalistic autocracy seems to be a real alternative to capitalist democracy. Autocratic Culture is spreading.
