China Coming Out Of The Pandemic

Last month, China unveiled the country’s latest maglev train, capable of a top speed of 600 kilometers perhour (km/h), or 373 miles per hour. The maximum speed would make the train, developed by state-owned ChinaRailway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) and manufactured in the coastal city of Qingdao, one of the fastest trains globally, as a maglev developed by Japan Railway had previously achieved a top speed of 603 km/h. At 600 km/h,the CRRC train would cut the trip from Beijing to Shanghai by train – a journey of more than 620 miles – to two and one-half hours. By comparison, the journey would take three hours by plane and 5.5 hours by high-speed rail. Citiessuch as Shanghai and Chengdu have started to conduct research into the integration of maglev trains for inter-city or inter-province lines, and several new maglev track networks are reportedly under construction, including one linking Shanghai and Hangzhou and another connecting Chengdu and Chongqing. Domestic development andproduction of such advanced commercial ground transportation is akin to China’s landing the first-ever probe on the far side of the moon two years ago. The Middle Kingdom is promoting innovation and new development as part of its “New Infrastructure” objective to move the country past the setbacks of the global pandemic andsolidly into the forefront of global advancement in industrial, digital and geopolitical capacities.
