There are mounting signals that corporate America is taking up the mantle of acting upon and defining “who we are and what do we stand for?” These kinds of actions contribute to the establishment of a new Grand Narrative in the U.S., amidst schizophrenic actions from the wider society and the government.
With increased frequency, companies are taking actions to pursue certain altruistic outcomes, such as supporting labor, protecting the environment, regulating guns, reducing hate speech, rethinking corporate governance and lobbying for the government to consider such issues. In essence, companies are taking up mantles that were previously the domain of government.
