The incorporation of artificial intelligence into all levels of individual, corporate and government connections is amplifying the risks of cyber-incursions, crime and fraud. While it has been more than 30 years since the first phishing attacks on AOL users were recognized, last year more than 67 percent of perpetrators of all phishing scams used artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Hacking tools and techniques are becoming cheaper and more potent, and the increasing use of AI enables bad actors to industrialize and personalize attacks. Meanwhile, the more extensive a network, the tougher it is to protect all access points. With the expanded use of AI, more platforms becoming available and capabilities growing, the risks of AI will escalate in sophistication and spread throughout society. The increased costs to individuals, financial institutions, online retailers and service providers will grow alongside the increased adoption of AI.
