The complexity of modern life has made knowledge of its ins and outs more and more necessary, but that knowledge merely leads to more uncertainty. The ever-increasing complexity of technology, science and the economy has left more and more individuals feeling stressed, worried, angered and, in many instances, lonely. Risks from domestic terrorism, climate change, financial hacking and advancing tech have made knowledge even more complex and demanding, furthering the stress, worry and anger. Self-help gurus and stress-reducing products have in the recent past helped individuals cope with these problems. Even more recently, individuals have started moving beyond merely coping with pressures around them and have been experimenting with ways to address the causes as well as the effects of stress, worry, anger and loneliness. Ultimately, this search for answers has turned to the brain, and psychedelic and psychoactive drugs are coming to the fore. Changing perspectives and attitudes about work, happiness and life are possible early effects of some personal drug experiments.
