Gen Z, or those Americans between the ages of 14 and 29, are navigating through life in the Chaos Economy with its uncertainty, unpredictability, precarity and volatility. They have been hit by two ironies: being the best-educated generation ever but struggling to gain employment and having grown up as digital natives but largely feeling “not very prepared” to compete in a job market shaped by AI integration. These and many other challenges have created an anxious generation who are exhibiting risky behavior for possible financial payoff. And through it all, Gen Z is making efforts to calm their anxiety by increasing socialization and finding new areas for personal expression.
