From its humble origins in a food market in Wuhan, China, the acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus has captured the world’s attention. Without a treatment, acure or a natural immunity, humans have become easy targets for the corona virus disease. But humans are hardly impotent against this suddenly omnipresent “enemy,”and we have noticed some responses that represent positive changes in three areas: Science/Technology Applications; Collaboration; and a category we call “We’re All inThis Together.” Actions in these three areas promise changes in the ways things have been done. In essence, this “war on the virus” will generate the kinds of results that wartime often produces and will lead to applications that society will be able to use long after the fight against the virus has ended.
