Hybridization Everywhere

The idea of merging two things to make something new is hardly a new idea; in fact, the language of such combinations, words such as mélange and portmanteau, goes back to the 1600s. Recently, hybridization of words has gained momentum because individuals are changing as they confront new realities of what we have called the Disorienting Environment. The pandemic, just one contributor to that environment, is altering traditional ways of operating and has opened individuals and institutions to a period of “forced experimentation.” Innovation has resulted, as new ways of living, thinking and operating have emerged. By interpreting what these innovations say about society, we have deduced several inferences: A Reconfiguration of Processes Enables Innovation; Broken Personal Habits Open New Opportunities; Lines Drawn in the Past Are Disappearing; A New Autonomy Challenges the Hierarchy; and The Disorienting Environment Is Getting Harsher. In short, a quiet revolution is underway.
