Pursuing The China Dream, Part Two

Pursuing The China Dream, Part Two

Cultivating innovation within China (see Part One of this inFocus) is but one strategy toward pursuing the China Dream. In order for President Xi’s China Dream to come to fruition, China must execute on several other goals simultaneously: It must develop new export markets to drive growth as key developed-world markets stagnate; it must prove that China can deploy overseashigh-tech projects like high-speed rail and nuclear power, previously the provenance of Japan and the West; it must secure energy resources for itself; and it must must cultivate key strategic partnerships globally and increase its geo-political influence. In short, Beijing must attempt to connect more deeply with the world while placing China at its center. China’s Silk Road initiative seeks to accomplish all of these goals simultaneously. Like China’s Innovation Strategy, it is a linchpin to achieving the China Dream.
