The Beginning Of The End For The Popularity of Autocratic Leaders

For more than a decade, the world has created conditions that nurtured autocratic leaders. At times, democracy appeared to be challenged, as powerful leaders seemed like the only ones who could bring sanity to a rapidly changing and uncertain world. While challenges continue to exist, the inability of many autocrats to yield some controland deliver the prosperity they promised has led to street demonstrations and other public manifestations of discontent. The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting Economic Pandemic have added momentum to this change in citizens’ perspective worldwide. The new realities facing authoritarian leaders have created an Autocrats’ Dilemma, which involves either becoming more rigid and adding more repression or responding favorably to citizens’ needs and demands. “Smart” autocrats are choosing the second route,while those choosing the first are having trouble. One further thought: Does the new perspective, as it relates to political autocrats, apply to corporate autocrats as well?
