The human brain, while lagging behind the effects of technology it has created, will have to adapt to virtual reality – and other technologies yet to reach society. But as the brain lag becomes more pronounced, what will be the effects on individuals and society? Already, so-called smart drugs are becoming more widespread as a response to conditions created by older technology. What will be the response to the next big thing? We have seen some individuals starting to pull back from their obsessions with all things digital. How will they greet VR? Our sense is that it will be quite successful, but the ongoing forced adaptations of the Evolutionary Brain to the Next Big Thing might be different this time.
