In September, the Philadelphia 76ers became the first professional sports team to own an e-sports team, when the team’s owners purchased controlling stakes in two e-sports organizations, Team Dignitas and Apex. These two organizations, merged into a single e-sports team under the name Team Dignitas, will be managed and maintained by the 76ers, and the Sixers will handle all aspects of day-to-day management, sales, merchandising, marketing, branding and publicity. Team Digitas will utilize the Sixers’ training facilities and sports-science resources as well as nutrition and sleep information to get the e-sports team performing at its peak level.
