What's A Business To Do?

Surveys indicate that trust in business has increased lately, actually exceeding the trust placed in government, media and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and with that elevated trustcomes more responsibilities. As individuals reassess their own lives, they are putting additional pressure on corporations to take advantage of their newfound trust and take on responsibilities that go beyond simply increasing earnings, such as climate change and social change. Large corporations are also facing a government more interested in regulating their behavior. Meanwhile, corporations must deal with changed and changing employees as well as shareholders with shifting interests, who are challenging traditional leadership actions. Plus, leaders must be aware of and take action against cyber-hackers, whose aggressiveness has increased in the past couple of years,as well as monitor increased healthcare and other insurance costs. This is a very full plate of traditional risks that can have greater and greater consequences than in the past and that call for new levels of responsibility and new ways of leading.
